Tuscany – A Journey Into the Heart of Italy

It was September 2019 when we received the request: a couple staying in one of our villas in Florence wanted to explore Pisa and Lucca in a single day, without the stress of trains, tickets, or tight schedules.
I remember it well—Fabrizio, one of our most trusted drivers, and I sat down for a coffee and began mapping out what would become one of our most beloved itineraries.

We designed this day trip to combine comfort, insight, and iconic beauty—all within the relaxed rhythm of Tuscany. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning to go beyond Florence and Chianti, this experience is a brilliant way to uncover two of Tuscany’s most artistic and historic cities.

Pisa & Lucca – Icons of Art, Architecture and Heritage

Pisa and Lucca

Few places express Tuscany’s rich identity as clearly as Pisa and Lucca.
Pisa, once a powerful maritime republic, is known worldwide for its Leaning Tower, but also for the Cathedral, Baptistery, and Monumental Cemetery, all part of the UNESCO World Heritage Piazza dei Miracoli.

Just a short drive away, Lucca reveals its quiet elegance. Enclosed by Renaissance walls, the city is full of churches, towers, artisan boutiques, and elegant cafés. It’s the birthplace of Puccini and a haven for those who love slow travel, music, and architectural beauty.

Tour Pisa & Lucca Full-Day Tour

Departure from Florence – Private or Small Group Tour

This experience is available as a private or small group tour, with flexible departure from Florence or other cities in Tuscany. You’ll travel in a comfortable, air-conditioned Mercedes sedan or minivan, accompanied by a professional English-speaking driver.

First Stop: Pisa
Begin your day in Piazza dei Miracoli, where you can choose to add a licensed local guide for a deeper experience.
Together, you’ll discover the Cathedral and Baptistery, and hear about the glory days of Pisa. The climb to the Leaning Tower is optional and requires a separate ticket.
Note: the local guide and entry tickets are not included in the tour price and can be arranged upon request.

Lunch Recommendation
After Pisa, we recommend stopping for lunch at La Cecca, a traditional and family-run trattoria in the countryside near Lucca. It’s one of those hidden gems where locals eat—and every dish is a celebration of Tuscan flavors.

Second Stop: Lucca
In the afternoon, your journey continues to Lucca, a city of walls, music, and timeless charm. You’ll enjoy a walking tour—independently or with an optional guide—highlighting:

  • Piazza dell’Anfiteatro – built on ancient Roman ruins
  • San Martino Cathedral – with its striking asymmetrical façade
  • Torre Guinigi – where centuries-old oak trees grow from its summit
  • The city’s 16th-century walls, which can be walked or cycled

Enjoy time for coffee, shopping, or simply soaking up the relaxed pace of Lucca.

Return to Florence
You’ll be driven back to Florence in the early evening, full of beauty, stories, and memories from western Tuscany.

From my Experience
This tour is special to me because it was born from real people with real needs—and it turned into one of our most appreciated experiences. It’s not just about ticking landmarks off a list; it’s about feeling the contrast between the grandeur of Pisa and the gentleness of Lucca.
